FROM 1923 TO 1983

1923

Premier Peat Moss Corporation is the very first company to distribute peat moss products in the Eastern United States.

1952

Premier Peat Moss Corporation adopts plastic bags and considerably improves its distribution process.

1963

Bernard Bélanger acquires Tourbières du Saint-Laurent in Rivière-du-Loup.

1964

Tourbières du Saint-Laurent introduces vacuum harvesting. This innovation allows for large-scale production.

1968

The official launch of PRO-MIX, the first line of “earthfree” growing media developed from research by Cornell University. Since then, PRO-MIX has been the industry’s standard regarding professional growing media.

1978

Creation of Tourbières Premier Ltd.
The company emerges from the association of Tourbières du Saint-Laurent and Premier Peat Moss Corporation.

1982

Harvest begins in Western Canada with the opening of a peat bog in Manitoba. The company expands its distribution network from coast to coast.

1983

Opening of the Research Center in Rivière-du-Loup. Research in horticulture begins with the inauguration of the largest research center dedicated to the development of biotechnologies linked to growing media. Notably, this approach has led to the creation of an innovative technological platform that allowed for the production of mycorrhizal inoculants on an industrial scale. 

FROM 1986 TO TODAY

1986

Tourbières Premier becomes the first manufacturer in the peat moss industry to automate its bagging process entirely.

1989

Premier Tech Horticulture launches its new heat-sealed bags which protect products from water and contaminants.

1993

Loading by the unit is replaced with a complete palletization program, which reduces handling costs and risks of damages to products during transit while facilitating product display in stores.

2000

Official launch of the new lines of professional peat and bark-based growing media and PRO-MIX® with Options, which broaden the product offer intended for greenhouse growers.

2002

Launch of the PRO-MIX Ultra series which offers consumers optimal performance for minimal plant care.

2003

Innovation on the market with the launch of PRO-MIX with BIOFUNGICIDE, the very first growing medium with a biological control agent added to be approved by the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

2005

Establishing a new standard in the industry, Mycorrhizae Premier Tech, the most evolved mycorrhizal inoculant on the market, is now a standard ingredient in the PRO-MIX products.

2006

Premier Tech Horticulture launches the MEGA BALE, the largest professional size ever offered on the market.

2011

Launch of new product lines, which comprise renowned and well-liked products as well as novelties. Those simplified lines suit the current needs of horticulturists.

2018

For PRO‑MIX^®, 2018 means 50 years of growing. Since 1968, we have been guided by innovation, growth, and passion, and dedicated to one principle: helping professional greenhouse growers and gardeners.

2023

For Premier Tech, 2023 marks 100 years of history and 40 years of innovation expertise in active ingredients, including Bacillus and mycorrhizae, which are an integral part of PRO-MIX^® growing media.
